Windows laptops have always had poor battery life compared to their Mac counterparts. I'd never looked into it in detail, assuming this
had more to do with Apple's hardware excellence than anything else, but Jeff Atwood (Coding Horror) argues convincingly

Well, despite the fact that Touch ID has been working very well for me, I can see that your mileage may vary:

As the rumors started to surface about Nest making a smoke alarm, I wondered how much it would cost, and whether or not it would have a similar replacement timeframe to most smoke alarms.
Most smoke alarms expire, and must be replaced. When you buy...

Touch ID is great.
It's easy to set up, works well, adds surprisingly little friction to day-to-day usage of the phone.
Like many people, I didn't use a passcode lock on my phone, because I make lots of quick uses of my phone every hour, and having to unlock it regularly added just enough friction that I found it irritating. Basically, I valued regular convenience over security in that case.
Touch ID solves that problem.

I agree with the sentiment expressed by Nik Fletcher and Shawn Blanc about iCloud backups for iOS devices. Apple should step and own these as an invisible part of the ecosystem that 'just works'. These shouldn't even appear in your iCloud quotas at all.

Subsequent articles made it clear that the main building is destroyed, and the accompanying photo show the building engulfed in flame.

I found James Davenport's "The (De-)evolution of My Laptop Battery" to be an interesting read, and I followed from the post to his GitHub repository, which was also an interesting read.
James Davenport's script to monitor his battery life is very simplistic, but it does the job of recording the data and allowing him to process it later. It immediately made me think of ways to improve the process (and clearly I'm not the only one).

While driving through Quebec, I heard a song that I liked and wanted to look up, but by the time I was done driving, I had forgotten about it.
Yesterday night at Acadie Rock 2013, Lisa LeBlanc took the stage and immediately reminded me what I liked about "J'pas un cowboy" when I had heard it on the radio.

I've been using Plex as the hub for my video consumption for so long that I almost forget what the alternatives are like.
I thought it would be a good idea to share what we're doing these days, both to record a snapshot for future reference and to help others enjoy some of the things that are working well for us.
